Talk Summary
China’s newly introduced K-Visa aims to attract young STEM scholars and researchers by allowing them to enter China without prior employer sponsorship and seek jobs after arrival. Announced in August 2025, the policy reflects China’s effort to strengthen its position in global talent competition amid intensifying geopolitical and technological rivalry. The timing of the K-Visa is significant, coming alongside renewed U.S. restrictions on H-1B visas that may discourage STEM migration to the United States. In this special lecture, Anushka Saxena examines the potential strengths of the K-Visa policy, as well as the political, institutional, and social challenges China may face in implementing it. She also explores Chinese domestic debates surrounding the policy, highlighting both optimism and public concern.
